Animal Kingdom

Orlando, Florida>, Oct 09, 2007

This park is great for kids of all ages. The earlier you get here the better.  Once it gets hot the animals donot move around very much. The Fastpass is a must for the following:  KILIMANJARO SAFARIS, IT’S TOUGH TO BE A BUG, EXPEDITION EVEREST.  My suggestion is get a Fastpass for Kilimanjaro Safaris and get in line a ride it. The time you wait in line and do the ride your time for the Fastpass will be ready and you can ride it again. Also do the same for Expedition Everest.  Expedition Everest is a wild rollercoaster ride on Mount Everest with a Yeti inside the mountain. Very nice ride!!  Under the Tree of Life is a 4D animated Bug show that will make you laugh and squirm in your seat. It’s Tough To Be A Bug is a must see and Fastpass recommended. In Asia, see the Flights of Wonder a bird show and Maharajah Jungle Trek, see tigers, deer, fruit bats, tapirs, and komodo dragons.  Visit Dinoland-USA and  Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

As always there are plenty of gift shops and resturants.

Check your park map for parade and show times. Ohhh, On the way into the park is a great resturant called Rainforest Cafe’. Awesome atmosphere and great food. Make reservations early!!

Epcot

Orlando, Florida>, Oct 09, 2007

This park is for the teenage crowd and above. Here are a few of my favorites and donot forget to get your fastpass!!  MISSION SPACE, a great ride that feels like your traveling in space. This ride spins so beware.  SOARIN’, You feel like you are flying!! Great ride.  SPACESHIP EARTH, Travel through  time.  TEST TRACK,  a car ride and at the end you reach the speed of 64mph.

World Showcase, Travel around the world. Mexico, China, Germany, Italy, America, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom, Canada. All have some great food these are my favorites, Japan, China, Mexico, and Germany. When you arrive make reservations for dinning next to Space Ship Earth. Each country have gift shops so you can take a little of that country home with you.

If you have the time take the Segway Tour. You can book it online at www.segway.com/disney.  You get instructions on how to ride it and time to ride around the World Showcase. Your guide will  tell you about the World Showcase as you travel.  At the end of the tour you get a pin to to remember your experience.

You can take a boat from Epcot to Disney MGM Studios. Along the way you will make stops at Yacht Club Resort, The Dolphin, The Swan, and Boardwak Inn.  Or you can take the Monorail from Epcot to the Magic Kingdom.

IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, breathtaking fireworks, colors, and lights set to a musical score. Well worth the wait. The best place to view is anywhere around the World Showcase. It takes place in the middle of the lagoon.

Disney MGM Studios

Orlando, Florida>, Oct 09, 2007

Welcome to HOLLYWOOD. This park is a lot of fun. A lot to do and see so start early. If you stay at any of the Disney hotels there are certain days they let hotel guest in an hour early into the park. Different days different parks. Check at your hotel.

Use the Fastpass!!!  Let’s start with a list of the most popular rides and attractions. TOWER OF TERROR, ROCK’N'ROLLER COASTER, GREAT MOVIE RIDE, BACKLOT TOUR, STAR TOURS, INDIANA JONES STUNT SPECTACULAR, LIGHTS MOTORS ACTION EXTREME STUNT SHOW. At the end of the day you have to see FANTASMIC! Get there a hour to and hour and a half before the show starts. The outside theater holds 3000, but for a great seat get there early.

Tower of Terror, a elevator ride to the twilight zone.  Rock’n'Roller Coaster, speed launched rollercoaster featuring Aerosmith Rock Band.   Great Movie Ride, take a tour back to your favorite movies, featuring the Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Indiana Jones, John Wayne, Mobster Movies.  Star Tours, take a ride with a animated robot into space with a few accidents along the way.  Indiana Jones Stunt Show, right out of the movie with some awesome stunts…GREAT.   Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show, outstanding show using cars, motorcycles, and a jetski with a few suprises along the way.

My favorite resturant is Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Cafe, You are in a drive n theater sitting in your car. Great burgers and a sci-fi movie too. A lot of fun.

The Magic Kingdom

Orlando, Florida>, Oct 09, 2007

The start of the tour takes us to the Magic Kingdom. You park your car and take the tram to the front gates. You buy your ticket and either take the Monorail or Ferryboat to the Magic Kingdom. I suggest taking the Monorail in and the Ferryboat out. Your first thing you will see is Main Street USA. While walking down the street you’ll see gift shops, resturants, and Cinderella’s castle at the end of the street. Wait till the end of your day to visit Main Street. Donot forget to get your park map and execute your plan on what you want to see. The first thing you need to do is get to the most popular rides first. Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Railroad, Jungle Cruise, and the Haunted Mansion just to name a few. The park is in a big circle so either go to your right or left. Check your map for Fast Pass tickets and see which rides apply. There is no cost to you, It lets you get a ticket and be able to come back at a later time to enjoy the ride with out standing in the long lines. If you have not made reservations to eat, I suggest Cinderella’s castle. You can visit there first and make your reservations for lunch or dinner. If not there are plenty of other places to get a quick bite to eat. Check your park map for show times, parades, and fireworks. If you plan to watch the Spectromagic Parade I suggest you fine a place along Main Street and get there an hour to and hour and a half early and claim a spot to watch. It is a very popular parade and very crowded, but worth the wait!! To watch the fireworks, Main Street USA is the best. The fireworks explode behind the castle and makes the best shot for movies and pictures.  I have a few rides and attractions that are my favorites. Tom Sawyer Island, located in Frontierland, you take a raft over to the island. It has caves, trails to hike, a bridge to cross and a fort to play in with s secret exit. Space Mountain…..a rollercoaster in the dark. An awesome ride!!! Jungle Cruise, a boat ride through the great rivers of the world. With animals at every turn, just a fun ride. Splash Mountain, you will get wet!!! Haunted Mansion, scary fun. Pirates of the Caribbean…rowdy pirates on a action voyage. It’s a Small World, children from around the world. The Hall of Presidents, an awesome attraction fearturing all of the presidents of the United States.  The Haunted Mansion, A doom buggy takes you through the Haunted Mansion. You see ghost dancing, spirits flying around and ghost sit in your seat along the way. Lots of fun!!

Another secret……When you ride the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom, ask to sit in the front. It will hold four people plus the driver. You get a front view as you pass threw the Contemporary Resort and a great view of Space Mountain and Cinderella’s Castle.

One of the best time to visit is between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s cool and the crowds are small. The summertime is crowded and very HOT.

Get there early and stay until the close. There is alot more to do but this has just been the highlights. Use the Fastpass!!!  It will save you time and disappointment.

Walt Disney World Resorts

Orlando, Florida>, Oct 09, 2007

I have not stayed at any of these. I took the time to visit and go inside and check them out.  Contemporary Resort, Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, The Dolphin, The Swan, Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian Resort, Beach Club Resort, and Yacht Club Resort.

My favorite has to be the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Just simplyy beautiful in an elegant setting. Located on the Seven Seas Lagoon with views of the Magic Kingdom. Take the Monorail to the Magic Kingdom or to the Ticket and Transportation Center to catch a bus, boat, or monorail to anywhere in Walt Disney World.

The Polynesian Resort is set in a Hawiian theme. Absoultely beautiful and set on the Seven Seas Lagoon with views of the Magic Kingdom. A great place to eat is at ‘Ohana’s. You have a choice of shrimp, pork, chicken, turkey, or beef on a kabob and all is cooked on an open grill. You pay one price and you can eat all or little as possible. They bring a lazy susan to the table with extra foods you can eat. Also some Hawiian entertainment…nice.  Make reservations please. Very busy!!

The Contemporary Resort, Your first view of this resort will be your ride on the monorail from the Ticket and Transportation Center to the Magic Kingdom. You will pass right through the Contemporary Resort just long enough to enjoy the beauty of this modern resort. Great food at the top at the California Grill featuring west coast american cuisine along with a spectacular view of the Magic Kingdom.

Wilderness Lodge, A awesome and grand resort from the Great American Northwest. Beautifuly decorated.

A brief but enjoyable Orlando visit…

Orlando, Florida>, Apr 12, 2005

It was a weekday trip to Orlando, Florida. The agenda was to spend two nights at The Nickelodeon Family Suites by Holiday Inn, recently converted from the Disney Family Suites by Holiday Inn. The second day would be spent with the first half at the hotel working with a department and the latter half at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure theme park.

We arrived early afternoon and headed straight for our hotel.  It is more for kids but I was excited to see the amenities and their new Water Park, both of them. I wasnâ??t too thrilled to see the kids especially when their motto is â??Where Kids Ruleâ?.  After we checked out our rooms, we gathered in The Mall. Thatâ??s where you will find the Food Court. The Nick@Nite Lounge is also located there, a hang out just for adults. We then went out to the water park and watched the first poolside show of the day. A few kids were chosen to play games and get slimed.

Dinner was a buffet in the banquet room since the dining room was still under renovation. There was a wide selection of food for the adults. The kids had their own food laid out on a small table with choices such as little sausages, cheese sticks, and chicken nuggets. The dessert table was full of assortments and toppings you can add yourself.

That evening we watched a free show in the Nick Studios. Two lucky families were chosen from the audience to compete against each other. They play games such as answering Nickelodeon related questions or race against each other to dress up like a Nicktoon character. The loser has the honor of being slimed.

The second day started with the Character Breakfast. The stars were SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Dora the Explorer, and my favorite Tommy Pickles. The staff did a little dance as the Nickelodeon theme song played. The kids loved it. I personally was ready to get out of there and ride some roller coasters. After spending the morning shadowing the servers in the dining room along with a co-worker of mine, the fun was about to start.

We walked through Universal City Walk and met Julie at the Universal Studios entrance. She was with public relations or something. I donâ??t think anyone really bothered remembering her position, we were just happy to get a V.I.P. pass to avoid the lines. We started with Shrek 4-D, a motion simulator ride. It is a 3-D film plus an extra dimension of special effects. You will feel like you are falling down a waterfall or have spiders crawling on your legs.

From Universal Studios, we moved on to the Islands of Adventure. There we rode the Dueling Dragons. At 55mph, you choose between the Fire Dragon or Ice Dragon as they pass each other in opposite directions. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man was our next ride here. It is a 3-D thrill ride where you will see Spider-Man jumping out at you. The Dueling Dragons roller coaster was the best ride. We rode it several times until it we left for dinner.

We then proceeded to the Universal City Walk for dinner at Jimmy Buffettâ??s Margaritaville. Jimmy Buffettâ??s concert was showing on the big screens. They had a giant blender filled with margaritas. When it becomes empty, a siren goes off and a bucket dumps margarita into the blender. I had the crab cake which I enjoyed with a glass of margarita. The restaurant was crowded and noisy but the company, music, and food were all good. The Universal City Walk is full of restaurants and clubs. There are so many happenings which I would like to return to someday.

The next day we checked out after breakfast. We stopped at the Florida Mall for a bit of shopping before heading home. The mall has 260 stores with the usual shops and of course, The Disney Store.

It was a fun time all crammed into three days and two nights. Definitely not enough time for even half of the Orlando experience.

Polasek Museum

Orlando, Florida>, Oct 04, 2007

While most people don’t go to Orlando for the culture, The Polasek Museum is great for a little bit of local history and art. Housed in the house and studio of Czech artist Albin Polasek, has a collection spanning the artist’s lifetime, mostly spiritual or religious in nature. In the tiny air-conditioned and moisture controlled shed by the garden are housed 14 colored pencil preliminary sketches for bas-relief sculptures of passion of Christ. My favorite part of the museum is the sculpture garden in the back of the house; serene and eternally green thanks to the moist Loch Haven lakefront and the hot Florida weather. The museum also hosts local artists and seasonal exhibits.

Admission (including tour)-
Adults: $5
Seniors: $4
Students: $3
