Ok, so I have to admit, I’m super spoiled when it comes to Cuban food. I grew up in Miami surrounded by Cuban food, both my parents were born in Cuba, so I was eating black beans before I could walk or talk. I didn’t even realize Cuban was considered “ethnic” until I was about 14. But I have to say, by far, that Bongos Cuban Cafe in Orlando has been the worst, most over-priced Cuban food I have ever eaten.
Honestly, I was a little weary at first to pay $10 for a plate of “picadillo,” or ground beef. But I was on a date, and I know my husband (then boyfriend) was trying his best to make a cultural connection, so I figured $1 for a “papa rellena” (stuffed potato, described to me once as a meatball surrounded by mashed potatoes) seemed ok, until I got my food. I’m a little embarrassed that this is so many people’s first foray into Cuban cuisine. The picadillo was bland, tasted like nothing I’ve ever had (in a bad way). The papas rellenas were a disappointment. They tasted ok, but they were tiny and the meat inside was bland as well. My poor future husband had never had black beans and rice, and since then it’s taken him several years to try them again for fear of pasty beans.
The Cuban coffee from the take-out window is not bad, but the pastries seem to be perpetually soggy and I’ve heard rumors of people finding mold growing in them. A real disappointment for what could have been a really good idea.

Like all of the theme parks, get there early and stay late. The first ride we jumped on was The Mummy. An awesome rollercoaster with a few extras inside……like fire!!! Before this ride opened it was King Kong. A superb ride with a life size Kong inside. To bad it was closed. Next was Earthquake the ride. You can participate in some movie making and then on to the ride. You hop into a subway train, you leave the station and make a turn and stop at the next statiion………the earthquake hits. Be ready for some fun. Next was Jaws the ride. You walk the lines and jump into your boat and off you go. The shark meets you and your guide pops a few gun shots into him to no avail…….????? Men In Black(MIB) you get into a car with siz other guest and off you go to shot the ailens. The car you ride in has a gun and it keeps your score. Lots of fun. Terminator is a live performance along with robots. You put on your 3D glasses and the show begins. It’s a great show. Where Back to the Future ride was is now the Simpsons. They were still working on it when I was there. E.T. the ride. You walk thru the forest and board your bicycle and your off for an advwnture with E.T. A cute ride. At the end E.T. says everyones name riding with you. Twister…….you actually expierence a real tornado. You stand on a pourch and watch cows, signs, and trees fly by you. And right in front of you a tornado forms. Really cool how they do this.
There is lots of other things to do to include: Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast, Shrek 4D, Beetlejuice’s Graveyard Revue, and Fear Factor Live.

Now this park has some extreme rides. My favorites are: Jurassic Park River Adventure, a thrilling raft ride but watchout for the T-Rex. The Dueling Dragons, choose between Fire and Ice and enjoy the rollercoaster ride. The Amazing Adventure of Spider-Man, put on your 3D glasses and enjoy the ride as you see spiderman and all of his evil villans. Doctor Doom’s Fearfall, You get shot 150 feet into the air and drops you faster than gravity. Incredible Hulk Coaster, an accelerated launch on a high speed rollercoaster. and Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls, a wet and wild flume ride…you will get wet. Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges, a white-water raft ride and you will get wet.
You have six islands of adventure: Toon lagoon, Jurassic Park, The lost Continent, Marvel Super Hero Island, and Seuss Landing. You have the HydroAction Ski Show it takes place in the lagoon.

What a great place to have fun. If you enjoy Eating, Dancing, and having a few drinks, this place is for you.
Rainforest Cafe’ - Set next to a volcano that erupts with live parrots outside and a rainforest theme inside. It’s a great place for lunch and dinner. Reservations recommended. Such delights as Rasta Pasta, China Island Chicken and Paradise Pizza. Every so often the rainforest comes alive with gorillas, elephants, and parrots Disney style.
There are other shops and resturants you can eat at. I can not wait to see La Nouba, Cirque Du Soleil. Also the House of Blues, Disney Quest a indoor active theme park and AMC movie theaters.
Pleasure Island - $21 gets you on the island with no cover charge at any of the clubs. You have five dance clubs. First is 8 Trax, music of the 70’s and 80’s. My personal favorite and is always jamin’. Second is BET Club. Hip-Hop and R&B. Third is Manneguins Dance Palace. If you like club music with a rotating dance floor this is the place for you. You take an elevator to the second floor and walk down the steps with the dance floor below you. Fourth is Rock’n'Roll Beach Club. Rock tunes with a live band. A good atmosphere and a lot of fun too. Fifth is Motion. Top 40 music played on a massive movie screen. Pleasure Island features two comedy clubs, The Comedy Warehouse and Adventurers Club. I recommend seeing the Comedy Warehouse first thing. The clubs don’t start happening till about 10:30. The bad thing is Pleasure Island closes at 2:00am. I don’t know about you but I’ve got my groove on and tearing up the dance floor.
